The holiday retail season brings an overwhelming increase in traffic - in-store, online, via mobile. With so many new acquisition, engagement and revenue opportunities, it's no wonder why most retailers are investing more into their mobile strategies.

There are a number of ways to engage with your mobile customers this holiday season.

1. Drive downloads
Leverage your existing mobile website with Apple Smart Banners on your mobile browser for an example) to convert users. With Android devices, this can be replicated with very simple customized coding. Check out Lane Bryant's mobile website, pictured here.

2. Set Expectations
Use push alerts to remind users of your shipping deadlines. Use geo-targeted push notifications to send app users to your Store Locator feature, reminding them of your extended hours and locations.

3. Loyalty Perks
Holiday is the best time to make the most of those loyalty integrations you implemented for your happy customers. In addition to this being a driver for your shoppers to download and engage with your app, Loyalty is also a great in-store traffic booster, as well.

Make sure your in-store staff is prepared to accept all types of loyalty redemption and mobile payments during the holiday season makes for a frictionless shopping experience, speeding up the checkout process and decreasing the chance of long lines - lines that could easily deter busy holiday shoppers from completing those last-minute purchases.

4. In-App Video
Although many retailers are strictly sales-focused this time of year, getting shoppers engaged with brand content before they shop is an effective technique to convert visits into purchases (see bebe's in-app video, pictured here).

Americans now spend 1 hour and 16 minutes each day watching videos on mobile devices – that’s more than double the average mobile viewing time just one year ago! We see tremendous spikes in video engagement on Thanksgiving, especially in the late afternoon and early evening hours.
