New GPShopper report uncovers consumers reaction to today’s shopping experience

GPShopper, the leading mobile commerce and engagement platform for retailers that want to create custom app experiences for customers, released its “Reality of Retail: Consumer Connection” report that found more than one third of consumers typically feel nothing when asked what their initial reaction was when shopping in-store. 

The study, conducted online with third party research firm YouGov, looks at not only how consumers who own a smartphone feel about the current in-store experience, but what innovations they want retailers to incorporate– whether digital or physical.

Transaction demonstrates commitment to bringing retail partners best-in-class mobile solutions for enhanced customer engagement, loyalty and analytics

Synchrony Financial (NYSE: SYF), a premier consumer financial services company, today announced that it has acquired GPShopper, an innovative developer of mobile apps that offer retailers and brands a full suite of commerce, engagement and analytic tools. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed and it is not expected to have a material impact on financial results.

The transaction further demonstrates Synchrony Financial’s commitment to bringing its partners enhanced digital offerings supported by advanced mobile application development and robust technology, data and analytics. Adding GPShopper’s mobile development expertise will be an integral part of Synchrony Financial’s efforts to further expand its mobile engagement capabilities.

Synchrony Financial announced a strategic investment in GPShopper in January 2015 and the companies have since collaborated on several well-received mobile offerings, including the Synchrony Plug-in or SyPi, a native credit feature that plugs in to a retailer’s mobile app. SyPi allows retailers’ credit cardholders to easily shop, redeem rewards, and securely manage and make payments to their accounts with their smartphones.

Self Checkout, Virtual Reality and Virtual Assistants Among Top Spots on GPShopper Consumer Consciousness Scale

 New GPShopper “Reality of Retail Tech” report reveals chatbots are out, VR is in

GPShopper, the leading mobile commerce and engagement platform for retailers that want to create custom app experiences for customers, released its “Reality of Retail Tech” report that found self checkout (71%), virtual reality (68%) and virtual assistants (35%) were among the highest on the consumer consciousness scale. Chatbots (19%), smart mirrors (10%) and smart shelves (7%) were ranked lowest. 

The study, conducted online with third party research firm YouGov, uncovered not only consumer awareness of retail technology trends, but how they want technology to impact the shopping experience.

GPShopper’s consumer consciousness scale measured what percent of consumers are familiar with each technology.

“Developments in mobile are further giving way to more advanced technology like virtual reality and chatbots, being brought into the shopping experience. However, with so much technology available to retailers, it currently feels like everyone is just throwing ideas at the wall and seeing what sticks. Smart retailers know how crucial it is to keep their finger on the pulse between an increasingly savvy shopper and the potential for technology to drive the industry forward. Synchrony Financial Plug-in (SyPi) Easily Integrates Credit into Retailers’ Mobile Apps

STAMFORD, Conn. -- To further enhance the mobile shopping experience for cardholders, Synchrony Financial (NYSE:SYF) has introduced a fully-integrated Synchrony plug-in credit feature for the popular mobile apps of leading retail partners. The Synchrony plug-in (‘SyPi’) allows retailers’ credit cardholders to easily shop, redeem rewards, and securely manage and make payments to their accounts via the smartphones they carry with them every day. This added functionality allows cardholders to view their account balance and purchase activity, make a payment and check their available credit for quick and easy purchasing decisions – all within the retailer’s app on their mobile devices. The SyPi credit feature is fully customizable and easily integrated within the retailers’ apps to enhance cardholders’ mobile shopping experience, increasing customer engagement and boosting loyalty. In some instances, the Synchrony plug-in also allows cardholders to receive push notifications and special offers, including access to rewards for convenient redemption in-store or online. 

As more than 80% of Americans own a smartphone and 78% of smartphone users access a retail site via a mobile app, forward-looking retailers understand the importance of offering their most loyal customers a convenient shopping experience through a customized mobile app. According to Synchrony Financial’s sixth annual Digital Study, 55% of survey respondents report they would shop a retailer more often if they received relevant offers on their mobile device, up significantly over the past year.
